Look over there,
You say, even before unpacking
I turn my head
And see glittering lights on water
Beyond choppy waters
The city stretches out
So do the sparkles
The moment the tiny lights in our hearts
Overlap with the light outside the window
The thought that your face brightens
The thought that the curves of our lives
Gently cross one another
Looking at your sleeping face
Discovering light embedded in it
The thought that this day will forever be remembered
They all pass over the vast cityscape
1.
It is where night and dawn morph like fish
Here, you can go far afield
You can paddle forward and then stop
From the point of departure to your destination,
today is always the first today
Speak to the mirror
Barge your way through the past
Bring your first face
Sitting on a bed covered in white sheets,
you
finally encounter yourself for the first time
2.
Use the Han River from your room
Let your mind flow
until it forms a large meander
You observe Seoul from outside the city
The world rises slowly
The river, cars, and people keep moving
Feel them empty into this place
Secrets slither up the walls before disappearing
Silence fills the hallways
3.
Daily weather, food, and a sense of peace
That’s all we need
Look in the mirror
Look for something else in it
There’s hidden power within you
Unpack time, music, history, and freedom
Outside the window
unfamiliar winds whistle past
4.
The hotel at dawn is the finest part of solitude
Embrace solitude on your pillow
Don’t be afraid, and just become darkness
In the morning,
a warm meal will await you
The journey to work is hectic, and the way home is long
Cooking, dish-washing, laundry, cleaning
The treadmill of housework keeps running
Exhaustion means something is absent from the body
It means having to take a step back in order to continue
I need time
Time for myself, time to spend together
I need none other than a new time
When I’m alone, when I’m with others
I need time to be colored with different lights
Days that pass without the daily commute
A place where living precedes housekeeping
What I do towards, not for something
How I slant to myself, to us
In desperate need of all that
I’ve arrived here today
Although life still takes getting used to
And well-living seems as distant as constellations
At certain times
Faint memories start moving
Missing puzzle pieces fill up the space
The moment I tasted sweetness for the first time in my life
The day I felt dizzy and found myself in love
The year I created a waterway with people in the same boat
The period when I immersed myself in one thing
I, too, went through those times
A familiar time unfolding in an unfamiliar space
An unfamiliar space adorned with a familiar time
Boats leave no marks on the Hangang River
But I hang like fruit on a stream of water outside the window
When I’m here
I stretch my entire body
My mind becomes as malleable as dough
When I’m here
All blockages get cleared
All my frustration is relieved
Walls are not there to hinder but to support
Postures start from the floor
Facial expressions finally sprout from within
I stretch my body towards tomorrow
